Relief: a feeling of reassurance and relaxation following release from anxiety or distress.
Maybe some of us never feel relief from the incessant memories in our heads.
Maybe some of us have things we can do to generate this lovely feeling of ease.
For me, it happens most in these two cases: when I get into bed after a long day and there is nothing else to do and no one needs anything from me, or when I sit down at the beginning of a show or an airplane ride and I know there’s nowhere for me to go for a while.
So maybe for me, relief is not having any tasks that need doing right now.
What is relief for you?
Does it have a color, or a temperature, or a set of conditions?

When you’re suffering, what’s one thing that helps you feel better?
In past moments of feeling broken and alone, I came up with this phrase. As long as I have one more idea, one more thing I can try, one thing to look forward to, as small as it might be, there is hope. There is a path forward.
It could be a cup of your favorite tea, a walk with a friend, or an upcoming trip. Maybe it’s just making it to the next episode of the Great British Bakeoff. Or finding a safe place to sleep with a hot meal and clean water.
